Founded in Portland in 2024 — a curation test with four parts, a membership with no traps, and a packing bench where every crate still gets tied by hand.
Our Story
Wanderfolk started in 2024 in a one-room workshop off SE Ankeny, with a hypothesis and a grudge. The grudge: the drawer every subscription-box subscriber has — the branded bottle openers, the seventh candle, the filler. The hypothesis: people would pay for a smaller box of genuinely good things from real makers, if the company showed its math and made leaving easy.
Two years in, the model hasn’t changed: around 200 makers pitch each season, five make the crate, and every one of them has hosted a workshop visit and survived the six-week beater test. The card in every box lists what each item costs maker-direct, so members can check that the month’s total beats the plan price — every month, on the record.
And the membership carries the same promise as the crate: nothing is filler, nothing is a trap. Pause, skip, and swap are two taps from any page; gift runs are prepaid and end cleanly. The doorbell should be something you look forward to. That’s the whole company.

Every crate crosses Rosa's bench in the SE Ankeny workshop before it ships. She hand-checks the manifest against the card, ties the twine, and has a personal vendetta against crushed corners.
